Well, a few hours of sleep later...

...and Aaron is still fighting. He is still very high on the ventilator, and barely oxygenating - but he's hanging on. We're all exhausted, but we're going back to the hospital early this morning. As much as it hurts, we need to be by his bedside.

We continue to pray for a miracle - that Aaron be relieved of his respiratory distress and that he relieves his adema by urinating.

Every time I pray, I beg God for a few more hours with my son. Thus far, He has obliged. Please pray that he continues to oblige. Because despite the struggles Aaron has endured recently, there is life inside his tiny body. He continues to kick. To wiggle his arms. He has life. Now we must pray that he gets a chance to experience it.

Still praying over here. I've been checking constantly for updates. I hope somehow Aaron starts peeing soon!!!! *HUGS* You guys are going through an amazingly tough situation. Not only is Aaron a brave fighter, but his mommy and daddy are too. Hang in there.

I'm praying so hard for Aaron and for you, Josh and Nikki! I am praying God holds the three of you in His arms and gives you the peace and rest and comfort you need. I'm praying that as the Great Physician He touches Aaron and heals Him completely and totally and brings him back to strength -- and lower vent settings and lots and lots of pee! :) I'm praying too that in this time you will remember the words in 1 Peter: "Cast your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.." as indeed the Lord does! And so do so very, very many people.

Nikki and Josh,

Please know that we are always thinking of you and Aaron. I pray that he continues to fight and that you are given the miracle you all so deserve. Aaron is such a strong little guy, I pray that he hangs in there. I am praying for strength for you both as well.

Dear Sweet Little Aaron,
You're on my mind day and night as I pray for you. On my lunchtime walk today, a mother and father goose crossed the road in front of me with 3 goslings. The mother apparently thought I was a little too close and hissed at me as I continued to get closer. I stopped walking in an effort to not threaten her and her family anymore than I already had. As I watched them cross the street, I thought of how much more God loves and cares for you dear sweet baby boy. I'm putting this prayer on your blog because, ....For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them. Matthew 18:20 (KJV)

Heavenly Father,
Look upon Aaron with the eyes of Your mercy. May Your healing hand rest upon him, may Your life-giving powers flow into every cell of his body to heal and restore him to wholeness and strength for service in your Kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen

The miracle of life is so evident in little Aaron even as he goes through such difficulties.
What seems impossible to man IS possible with God. Praying for a miracle!

Aaron didn't make it.

About 3 hours ago, Aaron passed away. After speaking with his doctors earlier in the last few weeks, we decided that if at any point they were no longer supporting Aaron's life, but instead preventing him from dying, that we didn't want him to suffer any longer. We reached that point this morning. Aaron had been struggling for life from Day One, and after surgery, and several weeks of fighting, Aaron ran out of strength. He fought hard, but the strain of surgery just proved to be too much for him. I'm sure I'll feel up to posting more information later. I just don't seem to have any energy left in me for relating this at the moment. But I did feel it was important to share this information with all of you who have been keeping tabs on us. Eighteen.

 18, Aaron. Holy shit, kid (calm down, you're 18 in about 5 hours, I can curse in front of you now, plus, I've had a couple drinks, my language is a bit loose). You're an adult. You're old enough to drive, you'd be looking at college or technical school, or backpacking across Europe in a gap year, or whatever weird thing kids are doing when they turn 18 these days. You'd be a person. A complete, fully realized, adult person. That's weird, kid, gotta admit. So, 18 is hitting your mom and I kinda hard. The idea of you at 18 is really blowing our minds. We were just barely not kids ourselves when you were born, and now we're talking about you as an adult. It's amazing to think about. IT WASN'T NEC!

After a long day of sitting at the hospital, hoping for the best, and preparing for the worst, the surgeon came in to talk to us and revealed to us that things went better than anyone could have possibly expected. Aaron never had an infection. What he did have though, was a hernia. He had a loop of intestine trapped beneath another loop, and while it was never "infected," it was trapped and deprived of blood, so it was dead. The surgeon removed the damaged loop, and thankfully, there is plenty more intestine left in there for Aaron. He's recovering peacefully from today's surgery, and was already at 28% oxygen (21% is room air) on the ventilator, and his other stats were all back where they were pre-surgery. He's doing fine. I want to thank everyone for their prayers and well-wishes during this time. I fully believe that Aaron wouldn't have rebounded from yesterday's procedure so quickly, and wouldn't have been as ready for today's if not for those...
