Happy Birthday, Baby On Your Six.

Well, today marks the 1-year anniversary of Baby On Your Six. What started as a journal of DrummerWife's sure-to-be hilarious pregnancy has sadly become a meager memorial to Aaron. For fun, I thought I'd recap everything that's taken place over the last 12 months in the world of Baby On Your Six. Here goes nothing:
  • December 14th, 2005 - Baby On Your Six is born
  • Christmas, 2005 - we informed both of our families about our pregnancy
  • March - bought new car to replace DrummerWife's Ford Escort
  • April 14th - we move into the new condo
  • April 27th - DrummerWife enters the hospital with what she thought was indigestion
  • April 28th - Aaron Keith Young is born at 12:44am
  • May 9th - Aaron is moved from Lankenau Hospital to Bryn Mawr Hospital
  • May 17th - Aaron has a drain inserted in preparation for further surgery
  • May 18th - Aaron has surgery to remove the NEC-infected portion of intestine, it is determined that it wasn't NEC at all, just a hernia
  • May 31st - Aaron dies from complications resulting from surgery
  • June 6th - Aaron's memorial service in Elizabethtown is held at Christ Lutheran Church
  • June 11th-18th - We spend the week in Duck, N.C. with DrummerWife's family
  • July 12th - We buy a second car this year to replace my dead Nissan Pathfinder
  • August 4th - What would have been Aaron's due date, we spend the day in remembrance and fun at Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown, PA
  • August 21st - Our 2nd wedding anniversary
  • September 9th - We welcome Guiness, our cat, into our home
  • October 3rd & 4th - DrummerPop-Pop undergoes heart catheter and valve replacement surgeries
  • October 27th - DrummerWife is informed that she's losing her job in 2 weeks
  • November 10th - DrummerWife is laid off
  • November 23rd - Thanksgiving Day Parade, we handle the Hello Kitty Balloon
  • December 4th - DrummerWife starts her new job
  • December 9th - We move again, just for good measure

As you can see...its been an odd year for us. I have to thank all of you who keep coming back, and who keep remembering Aaron along with us. To date, people have visited this site 24,166 times since April, when I started tracking that information. To be fair, 22,000 of those visits are from DrummerMother, but that's still a lot of visits for a site as small as this one. Never forget Aaron. I know we won't.

Dear Josh and Nikki,

Thanks so much for allowing us to be connected to Aaron thru your words. Each keystroke brought us closer to knowing how you feel and experiencing your blessings. Yes, I said "blessings". 2006 has been more difficult than the human mind can sometimes comprehend, but through it all, our families have been blessed. We all experienced first hand, how God works. We know he answers prayer. We don't always like the answers, but all of us have learned to accept them. We've learned through all the postings and comments how each of us has been been touched and we've been brought, all out of our love for one child.

Seems odd (or does it) that during this season, we remember that child and the gifts he has given each of us. It's reminiscint of another small child, isn't it? It's neat to think that our Aaron may be sitting on His lap right now!

God continue to bless you, Mommy and Daddy. Merry Christmas.

Aaron didn't make it.

About 3 hours ago, Aaron passed away. After speaking with his doctors earlier in the last few weeks, we decided that if at any point they were no longer supporting Aaron's life, but instead preventing him from dying, that we didn't want him to suffer any longer. We reached that point this morning. Aaron had been struggling for life from Day One, and after surgery, and several weeks of fighting, Aaron ran out of strength. He fought hard, but the strain of surgery just proved to be too much for him. I'm sure I'll feel up to posting more information later. I just don't seem to have any energy left in me for relating this at the moment. But I did feel it was important to share this information with all of you who have been keeping tabs on us. Thank you for your concern, your prayers, and your well-wishes during this difficult time. We love you. Eighteen.

 18, Aaron. Holy shit, kid (calm down, you're 18 in about 5 hours, I can curse in front of you now, plus, I've had a couple drinks, my language is a bit loose). You're an adult. You're old enough to drive, you'd be looking at college or technical school, or backpacking across Europe in a gap year, or whatever weird thing kids are doing when they turn 18 these days. You'd be a person. A complete, fully realized, adult person. That's weird, kid, gotta admit. So, 18 is hitting your mom and I kinda hard. The idea of you at 18 is really blowing our minds. We were just barely not kids ourselves when you were born, and now we're talking about you as an adult. It's amazing to think about. As you well know, we've done a ton of work with, and fundraising for, the March of Dimes; donated money and goods to community health centers; donated craft goods to a local moms and babies' hospital for siblings of newborns; collected toys, pajamas, and games for l...

IT WASN'T NEC!

After a long day of sitting at the hospital, hoping for the best, and preparing for the worst, the surgeon came in to talk to us and revealed to us that things went better than anyone could have possibly expected. Aaron never had an infection. What he did have though, was a hernia. He had a loop of intestine trapped beneath another loop, and while it was never "infected," it was trapped and deprived of blood, so it was dead. The surgeon removed the damaged loop, and thankfully, there is plenty more intestine left in there for Aaron. He's recovering peacefully from today's surgery, and was already at 28% oxygen (21% is room air) on the ventilator, and his other stats were all back where they were pre-surgery. He's doing fine. I want to thank everyone for their prayers and well-wishes during this time. I fully believe that Aaron wouldn't have rebounded from yesterday's procedure so quickly, and wouldn't have been as ready for today's if not for those...
